Plumeria aren’t indigenous to Hawaii, but have become an integral part of local culture. Fragrant and available in a variety of species and colors, plumeria are extremely popular for leimaking. Flying into Hawaii, I always realized I’ve reached home…when a fragrant handstrung lei of plumeria is draped around my neck during an embrace from loved ones.
